An early 7am start helped get the day off well and the
first Munro of the day, Beinn Chabhair, was reached by 9. This was followed by the drop
down to the low belach that separates Beinn Chabhair from An Caisteal
and Beinn a' Chroin. Rocky outcrops and grassy terraces were traversed
on the descent and then the ascent made to the col between the next two
peaks. An Caisteal was bagged followed by Beinn a' Chroin. There
followed a long long descent to lowest point before the next two munros
with a tricky steep ascent through crags and scree to reach to the
hogsback ridge between Tulaichean and Ardrain. As usual the time after
midday flew by and it took till 3pm to complete both these peaks. The
view from Cruach Ardrain was great looking North towards the Ben Layers
ranges and beyond. Any thoughts of descending and reascending Ben More
and her sister were dismissed and the long descent down to Crianlarich started. |

After deciding that the completion of all 7 munros in
the Crianlarich Hills in one day was a bit too much for the first significant day in the hills
after a long break, the last 2 remaining peaks were completed
the next day. The virtually continuous slopes from the road to the summit of Ben More were avoided by
following the Ben More Burn southwards. A steep but easy line lead up to
the Bealach-eader-dha-Bein and then onto Stob Binnein complete with a
friendly race against a fellow walker who was training for some sort of
multi-day mountain challenge. After re-tracing the steps to the Bealach,
Ben More was ascended and then descended in not much more than an hour. |
