The start of this walk was the car park of the Ben
Lawers Hotel. The Lawers Burn was followed all the way to Lochan nan Cat
and then onto the south ridge of Meall Greigh. The early part of the
route around to Meall Garb and An Stuc was strouded in thick mist but
navigation was not an issue with the clear remains of a boundary fence
hugging the skyline to guide the way. By the time Ben Lawers was being climbed the skies
had cleared so the pleasant easy scrambling to the highest peak of
the day was accompanied with great views. An easy walk along the ridge
completed the 5th Munro of the day - Beinn Ghlas. After a quick stop for
refreshments it was onto the challenge of the long descent to the belach
above Choire Odhar and the climb up Meall Corranaich. A dogs leg detour
was needed to bag Meall a'Choire Leith followed by the descent to the NT car
park to gather strength for the last Munro of the day - Meall nan
Tarmachan. This was thankfully an easy ascent and rapid descent but it
was still too late for any cars to be remaining in the car park on my
return. The long haul down to the
main road then back to Lawers village was a tiring but satisfying end
to a tremendous day. (The food in the Hotel comes highly recommended to
stock up the reserves after a tiring day - see
Ben Lawers Hotel for
details). |
