the Fisherfield

Home Up

Having climbed 5 of the 6 Fisherfield Munros on a trip to Scotland before I officially started to collect the Munros there remained only one peak to complete Beinn  a' Chlaidheimh. This is a peak that is potentially going to be removed from the Munro List since it has been recently been re-measured and was found to be just short of the 3000ft mark. However, for completeness I decided to climb it and complete the Fisherfield Six.

After finishing the final peak in the Inverael forest area in the morning, the afternoon of this day was spend climbing Beinn a'Chlaidheimh. It was also the opportunity to visit the famous Shenaval Bothy along the way as well. This area is served by excellent tracks and paths so access to the Bothy was very easy and speedy. However, the ascent of Beinn a'Chlaidheimh looked very intimidating from the Bothy with it’s very steep heathery and rocky slopes. This was far more severe that the map would have you believe so I circled the bottom of the mountain for a considerable way before I set off up the slope to the summit. After a tough climb, the summit ridge was reached and the final pull up to the peak completed. The descent was considerably easier down the eastward facing spur to join a stalker's path and the way back to the car.
